FT/IFC Sustainable Finance Awards

The Financial Times and IFC sponsored FT/IFC Sustainable Finance Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Sustainable Bank of the Year. The Sustainable Bank of the Year award recognizes the bank that has shown excellence in creating environmental, social and financial value across its operations. In this category, which is open to banking institutions in both developed and emerging economies, there is one overall winner and also prizes for regional leadership in Africa/Middle East; Asia Pacific; Europe; and the Americas. There will also be a prize for Global Sustainable Bank of the Year, for institutions active in three regions or more.
  • Sustainable Asset Owner of the Year. The Sustainable Asset Owner of the Year award highlights ground-breaking achievement in the area of sustainable investment, recognizing the institution that has shown innovation or leadership in creating environmental, social and financial value. This award recognizes all forms of environmental and social investment, and is open to all asset owners, including sovereign wealth funds, life insurance firms and pension funds.
  • Sustainable Asset Manager of the Year. The Sustainable Asset Manager of the Year award highlights ground-breaking achievement in the area of sustainable fund management, recognizing the management firm that has shown innovation or leadership in integrating environmental, social and governance factors into its investment philosophy and approach. This award recognizes all forms of environmental and social investment, and is open to all asset managers (including private and public equity participants) across all asset classes.
  • Achievement in Basic Needs Financing. The award for Achievement in Basic Needs Financing recognizes ground-breaking transactions, programmes and initiatives that use the power of finance to address the scarcity of essential goods (including food, water, housing and energy) across society. This category is open to all financial sector participants, from banks to hedge funds and insurers as well as to real sector company initiatives developed in partnership with financial sector participants.
  • Achievement in Financing at the Base of the Pyramid. The award for Achievement in Financing at the Base of the Pyramid recognizes ground-breaking financial transactions and initiatives that address the Base of the Pyramid (BOP), the more than 4 billion people who live on less than US$2 a day. This award highlights the development and delivery of innovative, viable and replicable financial products and services that engage and empower the poor. This category is open to all financial sector participants.
